The origins of the Montblanc watch company can be traced back to 1906, though it didn’t begin as a manufacturer of watches. Instead, the company was founded by Claus-Johannes Voss, Alfred Nehemias, and August Eberstein as a pen company. The three men largely produced high market pens for the city of Hamburg, Germany. Their first pen model, the Rouge Et Noir, was launched in 1909. In 1910, the company launched a pen model that was named the Mont Blanc, which was to become the name of the company (in 1934).
The Montblanc Legacy
Montblanc is perhaps best recognized by its company signature, which is a white stylized six-pointed star with rounded edges. This was chosen to signify the snowcap of the Mont Blanc mountains from above. The number “4810,” which is the height of the mountain, is also frequently used on Montblanc products. The official Montblanc symbol was used in 1913. Though the Montblanc company is still most well-known for its production of high quality fountain pens, it has also become a popular manufacturer of luxury watches as well.
The Montblanc Collections
There are currently six Montblanc watch collections that are being produced. The first is the Timewalker Collection, a contemporary watch that combines tradition and classic movements with a sleek look reflective of the 21st century. Each model in the Timewalker Collection has a sapphire crystal case back that showcases the automatic movement that installed in each Montblanc watch. There are several different models in the Timekeeper Collection, including the gold-plated Large Automatic, the stainless steel GMT, and the Chronograph Automatic. The second series of watches in the Montblanc line is the Profile Collection. Each model is equipped with a rectangular, stainless steel shape. There are many different options available within the Profile Collection. For example, the Profile Lady Elegance Diamonds model offers 22 diamonds that are prominently embedded into the watch’s case. The Power Reserve Automatic, on the other hand, is stainless steel and features an indicator that shows the watch’s power reserve.
The Summit Collection is a unique design that is very different from many of the other Montblanc watch models. The Summit watches all feature extremely flat cases and are very elegant timepieces. Watches in this collection are available with either quartz or mechanical movement. The Star Collection features watches that are reminiscent of the vintage Swiss timepieces that made the area famous. With its multiple features and mechanical complications, watches in the Star Collection are both practical and technologically advanced. They are available with a number of different options, including stainless steel and red gold cases. Montblanc’s Sport watch collection is designed for more active individuals who are looking for a blend of practicality and style. Popular models include the Sport GMT Automatic, the Sport Chronograph Automatic, and the Sport Gold Jewelry. The latest addition to the Montblanc line is the Collection Villeret 1858, a series of watches that is designed to pay tribute to the long legacy of quality Swiss watches. The Collection Villeret 1858 was unveiled in September 2007.
