The tradition of luxury Mauboussin watches began in 1827, when a man named Monsieur Rocher launched the jewelry business that would later become known as Mauboussin. With a history that extends back almost 200 years, the House of Mauboussin is one of the oldest luxury watch and jewelry companies in France. In 1852, a man named Jean-Baptiste Noury came on board to run the booming business. It was under Noury’s direction that Mauboussin began to develop into the powerhouse that it became. For Noury, this culminated in appearances at the World Fairs in 1873 and 1878. In 1878, Mauboussin was awarded a special medal at the Paris World Fair. In 1876, Noury’s nephew, Georges Mauboussin, joined the jewelry house. He gradually moved up in the company until buying it in 1883. The 1920s was an important decade for Mauboussin. Not only had the company become among the most highly regarded jewelry houses in Paris, it also launched a plan to spread Mauboussin products worldwide. Between 1928 and 1931, the company launched three specifically themed exhibits – emeralds, rubies, and diamonds. These exhibits cemented the reputation of Mauboussin as a major player in the world of jewels.
The Mauboussin Legacy
After establishing itself as one of the world’s premier jewelry houses, Mauboussin then extended its line and began manufacturing quality luxury watches. The company prided itself on using fine jewels to accent its innovative and elegant watches. Mauboussin watches began to gain popularity and enjoy a reputation for luxury and elegance. Throughout the latter part of the 20th century, Mauboussin continued to develop quality jewels and watches that appealed to a wide variety of consumers. In the 1980s, the company integrated the concept of light and shadows into their jewelry and watch line. Many of the shapes used in both were circular, which represented the spirit of the individual. In the 1990s, Mauboussin developed the “Olympe” jewel, which was carefully designed to match the cut and type of the ring or watch it was being matched with.
The Mauboussin Collections
There are several luxury Mauboussin watch collections. One of the most popular is their Chronograph collection, particularly the Fouga series. Mauboussin’s Fouga Chronograph watch features automatic mechanical movement, sapphire crystal, and is water resistant up to 30 meters. There are different variations of the Fouga Chronograph, including differences in color and the strap. The Fouga Chronograph also features a rectangular dial. Another popular Mauboussin watch is the Ladies M model. The head of the Ladies M is made of stainless steel and is considerably smaller and sleeker than the Fouga Chronograph. It features a quartz movement, a sapphire crystal, and is also water resistant up to 30 meters. As with the Fouga Chronograph, there are several variations (primarily concerning color) of the Mauboussin Ladies M watch model that are available. Mauboussin also offers the Ladies Fouga, which is a variation of the original Fouga Chronograph model. Though the Ladies Fouga is similar to the original, it is much smaller and features a circular dial instead of the traditional rectangular one. There is also a Ladies Ultra Thin model that is part of the Mauboussin watch collection. Other Mauboussin models include the Marbore Chronograph, the Sport, the Ultra Thin Skeleton, and the Ladies Ultra Thin.
